Milk Teeth at Kindergarten Age...
What you as a parent should know!
zahnspange-berlin
kindergartenalter Milk teeth -
the basis for your child's permanent teeth!

On this page we would like to explain to you what you should know to keep your child's milk teeth healthy.
Milk teeth serve as placeholders for the new permanent teeth!
Milk teeth hold the correct positions free for the new permanent teeth developing in the jaw. They serve so to speak as placeholders. Particularly the milk molars play a special and important role in the supporting (posterior) area of the dental arch.
Healthy milk teeth -
so your child can take a big bite tomorrow!

Your child can only bite and chew its food properly for good digestion when the milk teeth are properly aligned.

The milk teeth and corresponding permanent teeth have exactly the same functions in the chewing process.
Healthy front milk teeth -
Important for articulating clearly when learning to talk.
Your child can only articulate clearly and flawlessly when the upper and lower incisors are straight and properly aligned.
Causes of premature milk tooth loss:
  Too much sugar
Eating or drinking too many sugary foods or beverages can cause tooth decay to the point that it completely destroys the tender milk teeth. Even though you may have decided against the "sweet teas" popular in the past, the so-called nursing bottle syndrome where the child sucks for long periods of time on a baby bottle, filled with fruit juice for example, as a substitute pacifier is today a common sight.
  Accidents

Play and sports accidents with a roller, bicycle or sled for example, are very common causes for a child losing a milk tooth.

It is nearly always the four upper front teeth that are affected.

The lower front teeth are protected by saliva against too much sugar because these teeth are closer to the saliva gland of the lower jaw.

A space maintainer can help when a milk tooth is lost.
If your child does happen to lose a milk tooth prematurely, meaning roughly 1 to 1 ½ years before the permanent teeth start coming in, then a space maintainer can be used.

The job of the space maintainer is to keep the gap left by the missing tooth open for the permanent tooth.

This prevents the neighboring teeth from wandering into the gap, which ensures that the permanent tooth can immediately grow into the right position.

By the way, children of this age group are usually very motivated and cooperative about wearing the maintainer.
