Temporomandibular joint disorders -
many people are still unaware of the symptoms!

Disorders of the human temporomandibular, or jaw, joint and the diverse consequences are today still widely unknown.
These disorders are one of the most commonly untreated causes of a variety of orthopedic, neurological
and
functional problems..
One example:
The jaw joint is very close to the ear. So when pain occurs in this region, most people go to an ear, nose
and throat specialist.
But because the ear is healthy in these cases, the ear, nose and throat specialist does not find anything wrong.
TMJ analysis, on the other hand, can determine exactly what the problem is.

The symptoms are often incorrectly diagnosed.
The symptoms are sometimes able to be clearly classified, but very often they are not. They are not always brought
immediately into direct conjunction with the teeth or masticatory system.
This applies particularly to those symptoms that do not necessarily involve pain. A few examples are ringing
in the ears (tinnitus), sounds in the jaw joints (clicking, grating) and limited movement or locking of the jaw.
It is most likely that your life partner will be the first to hear the grating sounds during sleep, who of course
will find them unpleasant and irritating.
In the long term, however, the cause of the grating sounds can lead to significant health problems for the person affected.

Common Symptoms of TMJ Disorders:
 Grating or clicking sounds
in the jaw joints
Headaches in the regions of the
temples or cheekbones
Tension of the neck muscles
or chewing muscles
Toothaches although the teeth,
gums and jaw bones are healthy
Earaches and tinnitus (ringing
in the ears)
Orthopedic problems such as spinal
disk problems or pelvic obliquity
Vegetative disorders such as dizziness
or chronic fatigue

A functional analysis of the TMJ is the required prerequisite for accurately determining whether the cause of the
problem is a disorder of the jaw joints.
The jaw joints and chewing muscles are clinically examined to make a functional diagnosis.
Special measurement devices are used to register the upper and lower jaws and jaw joints in order to identify unhealthy disorders.
Models made from impressions of your teeth and jaws are mounted in a special "TMJ simulator" that allows us to analyze outside
of your mouth the individual movement patterns of your jaws.

Splint therapy as an immediate measure.
If a TMJ disorder is diagnosed, then splint therapy can be used as an immediate measure to break the vicious circle.
But permanent relief can only be guaranteed by eliminating the root cause!
There are two possibilities to achieve permanent relief, depending on diagnosis:
1. Your dentist reconstructs the chewing surfaces of your teeth or poorly seated dental prosthesis.
2. We orthodontists use orthodontic treatment methods to realign your teeth and jaw into a preprogrammed neutral position.
