Where orthodontic treatment alone reaches its limits...
This applies to all orthodontic / oral surgery combination treatments, in other words, those cases where the skeletal anomalies are so pronounced that in addition to correcting the dental arches, a surgical operation is required to achieve optimal chewing functionality.
This treatment method is indicated where conservative orthodontic treatment reaches the limits of what is technically possible because the anomalies are too great.
At our practice we have been treating skeletal dysgnathic anomalies in interdisciplinary cooperation with maxillofacial surgeons for 15 years, including cases of open bite and prognathism (protruding lower jaw) to name a few.

In cooperation with the maxillofacial surgeon...
...we create a treatment plan that includes surgical correction of the jaw following orthodontic pretreatment.
These surgical corrections can only be done after childhood growth has completed, i.e., not before age 18.
Subsequent to surgical correction of the jaw, orthodontic fine tuning is usually required to achieve an optimal bite.
Once active treatment has been completed, the results achieved must be preserved, often for the rest of the patient´s life.
Our patients are always very satisfied with the results because they have finally been relieved of the jaw misalignment problems that have been causing them discomfort, in some cases for decades.
