Moving teeth with the help of self-ligating brackets and highly elastic, shape-memory archwires provides significant advantages both in time and quality compared to conventional bracket systems where the wires are tied tightly into the bracket slots with ligatures..
The photos below show the results achieved with orthodontic tooth movement done at our practice. The new self-ligating brackets from GAC were used for this patient. The second photo was taken only three weeks later.

The secret behind this treatment method...
The secret of this improved, faster treatment method is how the forces are transmitted by the brackets bonded to the teeth.
The archwires inserted into the bracket slots exert the forces required to move a tooth into the desired direction.
Dwight Damon, the inventor of self-ligating bracket systems, had the idea of minimizing friction inside the bracket slot to transmit the force of the archwire to the tooth more passively.
Dr. Damon calls this "biologically sensible" forces, which means the teeth are moved using low forces consistent with the forces exerted by the muscles of the cheeks, tongue face and mouth.
These biologically sensible forces allow the facial system to find a new balance during treatment, which at the same time also improves facial aesthetics.

How good are the results of this treatment method?
The treatment results have proven the self-regulating capabilities of the facial/chewing system which were previously thought to be impossible.
The jaws expand using only the lightest forces and provide the basis for beautifully developed dental arches; midline misalignments of the upper and lower jaws come back into alignment because the condyles of the jaw joints are capable of realigning themselves; and all of this because Dr. Damon drastically reduced the forces used to move teeth by inventing his passive self-ligating low-fiction bracket slots.

We have been using the Damon system for years at our practice.
As one of the first German practices to use the Damon system on a large scale, we have been actively involved in the further development of the brackets, and we meet regularly with the American engineers who are responsible for the system at the Ormco Company to exchange ideas.
Through this contact, many patients from abroad who have been fitted with Damon brackets by their local orthodontist at home come to us for care during their stay in Berlin on temporary job assignments.

We also use other self-ligating bracket systems at our practice.
We decide from case to case which system is best suited to help each patient with their particular problem.
Due to the limited coverage provided by health insurance programs for self-ligating systems, we offer our patients installment financing plans for the additional costs of their treatment. Up to four installments are free of interest, and we even offer five-year installment plans.
